What is monsplasty?
- Posted on: Mar 15 2020
If you have lost confidence in your appearance due to excess fat and skin tissue in the abdominal area, many women believe they need a tummy tuck. However, women with excess skin right above the vaginal area called the “mons,” they may be better suited for a pubic lift or a “monsplasty.” The mons is often excess fat and skin visible in the upper part of the vaginal area where the pubic hair is present. Some patients may have a large bulge, while others might have a small flap of excess tissue.
What is a monsplasty?
Regardless of the size of the mons, most women will find that a monsplasty will take care of their concerns and boost their self-confidence. The procedure is performed by a plastic surgeon at Elite Transformations, Dr. Orna Fisher, during which she will remove this flap or bulge to give a smoother, firmer look to the lower abdominal area of concern.
How is monsplasty performed?
Dr. Orna Fisher will perform this and other surgeries under general anesthesia when appropriate, though some women may benefit from slight oral sedation and local anesthetics to complete this treatment. Our professionals will educate women on the advantages of each and determine the best way to perform surgery. During the procedure, the excess tissues are removed and sutured to flatten the area and give a more youthful, firmer appearance.
What are the risks of monsplasty?
The risks associated with monsplasty are similar to other surgical procedures, including bleeding, infection, hematoma, and noticeable scarring. However, during an evaluation, our team will determine if a patient is well-suited for this procedure, and ensure the benefits outweigh the risks.
How long does it take to recover from monsplasty?
The monsplasty recovery period is typically about one week of recovery, and restrictions in physical activity up to six weeks. This depends greatly on how extensive the procedure was.
