Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Studies show that many people would like to change something about their nose. The position of the nose as the central feature on the face puts a great deal of importance on the contours and size of the bridge, tip, and nostrils. Rhinoplasty, or a surgical nose job, can permanently refine the nose. However, if you have a preference to avoid surgery, you may be a good candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty.
What Is a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a common treatment in which dermal fillers are used to reshape the nose without surgery.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Non-Surgical Nose Job?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty may be an ideal treatment option for individuals who are interested in correcting minor imperfections to improve the overall appearance of their nose. Just as with surgical rhinoplasty, it is important to have realistic expectations regarding the scope and limitations of non-surgical treatment. For example, a non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot make the nose appear smaller or improve structural defects that affect breathing. Dr. Orna can walk each patient through the respective processes to determine what is best course of action would be.
Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Both surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures have unique advantages and disadvantages.
A surgical rhinoplasty offers the advantage of permanent results that do not have to be maintained. The costs associated with a surgical rhinoplasty occur once, at the time of surgery, whereas a non-surgical rhinoplasty incurs costs on an ongoing basis in order to maintain results. For this reason, a surgical rhinoplasty may be more cost-effective in the long run. On the other hand, surgical rhinoplasty presents risks that a non-surgical procedure does not, such as infection and unsatisfactory results.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty is fast and convenient. The up-front cost for each treatment is lower, but, spread out over time, will add up to more than a surgical rhinoplasty. However, because the initial results of this treatment are temporary compared to the surgical procedure, patients are able to assess their satisfaction with a different nose shape without committing to permanent change. Dr. Orna can discuss with each patient which procedure would be more beneficial to them.
What Can a Non-Surgical Nose Job Treat
Non-surgical rhinoplasty may be performed to make the nose appear:
- Straighter in profile by minimizing a bump or hump
- More symmetrical with other facial features
- Larger and more refined
- More defined at the tip, bridge, or base
- Non-surgical rhinoplasty may also straighten a crooked nose
Changing the shape and size of the nose in any one of these ways can create better facial symmetry for an overall improved appearance.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Procedure
The first step to a non-surgical rhinoplasty is to consult with an experienced member of our team. This appointment allows us to discuss the concerns that you have and the changes that may be achieved with non-surgical treatment. Your provider will answer your questions and provide you with information regarding the dermal filler product selected for your case.
It may be possible to have your non-surgical rhinoplasty treatment immediately after your consultation. The procedure involves a few injections of dermal fillers into the soft tissue of the nose in the area that needs refinement. This aspect of treatment usually takes less than 15 minutes. Because a tiny needle is used to administer dermal fillers, treatment is generally comfortable. However, if you are concerned about pain, we can discuss the use of a topical analgesic to decrease sensations on the skin. Keep in mind that most dermal fillers contain Lidocaine, which mildly numbs the area at the onset of treatment.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Recovery
After treatment with dermal fillers, patients are able to resume most normal activities immediately. The nose may appear slightly swollen and red as a result of injections. These side effects usually decrease quickly. Swelling may diminish more gradually over the course of 1 to 2 days. However, this is so mild it should barely be noticed.
How Does a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Work?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty can augment the size and shape of the nose through the action of hyaluronic acid, the primary ingredient in dermal fillers. This natural compound is what the body makes to hold water molecules where they are needed most, like the skin and the joints. Hyaluronic acid does not instigate allergy or adverse reaction because it exists in the body already. When we inject it into superficial tissue, the particles of hyaluronic acid we insert bind to water molecules to change the appearance of the skin or, in this case, the nose.
Full Facial Rejuvenation With Chin Augmentation and Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
There is an important relationship between the chin and the nose as these features pertain to overall facial symmetry. When the nose is reshaped with any kind of rhinoplasty procedure, surgical or non-surgical, a weak chin may appear even less pronounced in terms of forward-projection. While the nose itself would look better, the overall symmetry of the face would continue to be out of balance. Chin augmentation can also be achieved with dermal fillers, adding hyaluronic acid strategically to increase the projection of the chin to maintain alignment with the tip of the nose.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Benefits
The primary benefits of non-surgical rhinoplasty include the immediacy of results and the convenience of the procedure itself. Patients appreciate that they can get right back to life as usual after non-surgical treatment and avoid the risks of surgery. The results of treatment may be temporary compared to a surgical nose job, but they can last up to one year.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Risks
The minimal risks of non-surgical rhinoplasty include:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Bruising
- A bump or lump under the skin
- Asymmetrical results
Obtaining care from a licensed, experienced provider is the best way to minimize complications from non-surgical rhinoplasty.
